PrecisionID EAN UPC Barcode Font Contents

The PrecisionID UPC Font Software enables the generation of UPC and EAN Barcodes. The software contains 5 sizes of Windows TrueType (TTF), Binary PostScript (PFB), and ASCII PostScript (PFA) fonts. The package includes a User’s Guide with specifications correlating specific fonts and point sizes with X dimensions and printed height. The User’s Guide also includes several tutorials, explaining in step-by-step fashion, application of PrecisionID’s UPC and EAN Barcode in Microsoft Word (Mail Merge), Excel, Access, and Crystal Reports.

UPC barcodes are somewhat complex to construct and require check digit calculations. To make this process very simple, the software includes PrecisionID Font Formatting Components™. These modules automatically compress and format the data for use with the barcode font. PrecisionID Font Formatting Components™ include a Microsoft VBA module for Microsoft Office applications and a UFL for Crystal Reports. For other applications or languages, the source code of these modules may be used as a guide for conversion.

PrecisionID UPC Barcode Software Compatibility

PrecisionID UPC Barcode Fonts run on all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows including Windows 7, 8, 10 and Mac OSX (10.1 or greater). The fonts come in Windows TrueType (TTF) fonts as well as Binary (PFB) and ASCII (PFA) versions of PostScript fonts. For other operating systems, consult the documentation for your operating system or software for instructions and which font version to install.

UPC Barcodes

The Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode is used in the US and Canadian retail industry to identify and track products. The UPC-A barcode consists 12 numbers where the UPC-E consisted of 12 numbers that are compressed into 8 numbers for use on smaller packages. To obtain a company prefix for UPC barcodes you will need to contact the Uniform Code Council (UCC).

UCC

The Uniform Code Council (UCC) creates standards for multi-industry product identification. UCC-12 is another name for the UPC-A standard.

EAN Barcodes

The European Article Numbering System (EAN) barcodes are a superset of the UPC barcodes. EAN-13 consists of 13 numbers where EAN-8 consists of 8 digits for smaller packages. To obtain a company prefix for EAN barcodes you will need to contact EAN at http://www.ean-int.org/.

ISBN and Bookland Barcodes

International Standard Book Numbers are used to uniquely identify books and periodicals. This number is encoded into an EAN-13 barcode where the first 3 digits are always 978 followed by the 9 digit ISBN number without the ISBN check digit. This standard is also commonly referred to as Bookland or EAN-Bookland. For an ISBN number contact http://www.isbn.org/.

JAN Barcodes

The Japanese Article Number (JAN) is identical to the EAN-13 barcode where the first two digits are set to 45 or 49, identifying Japan.
