the US and Canada since 1973. PrecisionID's EAN
Barcode Font Package can be used to create EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
UCC-12, ISBN, Bookland, and JAN barcodes. For

The EAN Barcode Package contains 5 sizes of Windows
TrueType (TTF), Binary PostScript (PFB), and ASCII PostScript
(PFA) fonts. The package also includes a
User's
Guide with specifications correlating specific fonts and
point sizes with X dimensions and printed height. The

The EAN barcodes are somewhat complex to construct and require check
digit calculations. To make this process very simple, our
package includes PrecisionID Font Formatting Components.
These modules automatically compress and format the data for
use with the barcode font. PrecisionID Font Formatting
Components include a Microsoft VBA module for Microsoft
Office applications and a UFL for Crystal Reports. For other
applications or languages, the source code of these modules
may be used as a guide for conversion.

UPC Barcodes
The Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode is used in the US and Canadian
retail industry to identify and track products. The UPC-A
barcode consists 12 numbers where the UPC-E consisted of 12
numbers that are compressed into 8 numbers for use on smaller
packages. To obtain a company prefix for UPC barcodes you will
need to contact the
Uniform
Code Council (UCC).
UCC
The
Uniform Code Council (UCC)
creates standards for multi-industry product
identification. UCC-12 is another name for the UPC-A standard.
ISBN and Bookland Barcodes
International Standard Book Numbers are used to uniquely identify books and
periodicals. This number is encoded into an EAN-13
barcode where the first 3 digits are always 978 followed by
the 9 digit ISBN number without the ISBN check digit. This
standard is also commonly referred to as Bookland or
EAN-Bookland. For an ISBN number contact
http://www.isbn.org/.
JAN Barcodes
The Japanese Article Number (JAN) is identical to the EAN-13 barcode where
the first two digits are set to 45 or 49, identifying Japan.
